checking in

Our little dude is becoming quite the little man lately. Growing and changing before our eyes! He is always generous with smiles, sometimes even giggles if we blow raspberries on him. He usually wakes up happy (sometimes he wakes up happy at 4:30am, which makes mommy tired) and is a piece of cake to put to bed at night. Naps are a different story... he naps so well for Ms. Linda, but he knows how to work the mommy-and-daddy system on the weekends and would much prefer to nap while we hold him.

We seem to be starting the teething process, much to my chagrin. I'd rather he stayed, you know, a babyyyy for a while longer, but such is life I guess.

Evidence of our hands in our mouth:

see, these are the gums that hold the teeth that are making me crazy.

Joey's brother, Jamie, was here visiting from Colorado this week. Brecken got to meet Uncle Jamie and I didn't even get a picture of it! I hope Grandma Sherri did.

Did you know Brecken has the best daddy ever?! He does! Like Ms. Linda told me earlier this week "you don't always think about how well a guy is going to take to fatherhood when you start dating them, but you managed to find a great one in Joey". Brecken and I are very, very lucky. Joey is such a doting dad and is beaming with pride 24/7.

And again, I'm realizing I didn't get a picture of Brecken and his dad on Father's Day... man I need to get better at this. I do have a picture of Brecken by himself!

We were out visiting our neighbors earlier this week. It finally cooled off enough that we weren't drenched in sweat from the heat and humidity. Our neighbors down the street have a 2ish year old little boy, and just had a new baby boy earlier this month. Luckily for us moms, all 3 boys names start with "Br-" this ought to be fun when they get old enough to play! :) Also that night, Brecken met our next-door neighbor, Nola. Nola turned 98 on Tuesday of this week! She still lives in her house and has people check on her every day or so. She's a character and was so happy to meet B!

brecken and our neighbor, nola, she turned 98 on june 23rd!

What else. Have I mentioned it's been hot (yes... :) and humid? I love summer, mainly because my birthday is in 2 weeks and 2 days (HINT HINT) but the humidity is for the birds. Seriously, I've been down here for 9 years and I'm still not used to it. Although I am a teeny, tiny bit better with it than say, mom and Kellie? They start getting twitchy at a mere mention of dew points. ;) Kidding, guys. Anyway, it's been hot, and Brecken spends a lot of the early evenings like this:

nekked baby

Brecken has quite the routine down pat. Once he started daycare, he just fell into a natural rhythm and we haven't looked back! We're always trying to stay flexible but you could almost set your watch by him. Everyone asks if I'm still nursing him - I don't know if 4 months of this is a feat or what?! but yes, I am, sort of. When I started back to work we started an exclusively-pumping routine, so I don't nurse him, per se, but he's still getting the good stuff and it's really working out awesomely for us. We know just how much he's eating and it's sooooo much less frustrating for both of us (due to a plethora of reasons you really don't care about :) moving on...

This is what our day looks like:

  • 6:15 – I (begrudgingly) get up, count how many days are left until Saturday so I can sleep in. I make a bottle (6 oz.) for Brecken
  • 6:30 — I hop in the shower; Joey gets Brecken dressed for the day and feeds him the bottle
  • 7:00 — B hangs out in his Boppy on our bed, entranced by the ceiling fan; Joey and I get ready for work
  • 7:30 — Off to work for Joey; I drop B off at daycare and head to work myself
  • 8:00 — Brecken is down for his first nap of the day – he does this on the weekends too, which is grrrreat because we can sleep in a bit! He’s done this since he was little, he always just needs an extra few hours to sleep it seems.
  • 10:00-10:30 — Brecken wakes from his nap (on his own – Ms. Linda never wakes him because it’s super hard to feed him when he doesn’t wake on his on – he’s all discombobulated) and is ready to eat (6 oz). He then does his “baby exercises” with Linda and plays until he gets tired
  • 12:00pm — B goes down for nap numero dos – she swaddles him, pops his pacifier in (which he now uses only to sleep) and he’s out! She plays either white noise or some music CD thing that he seems to like.
  • 3:00-3:30 – B wakes from his nap and is ready for his 3rd bottle of the day (2nd at daycare) (6oz), followed by more playing and book reading!
  • 4:30-5pm — One of us picks the munchkin up, depending on the day.
  • 5 – 6ish — B and mommy and daddy stare at each other, he tells us all about his day.
  • 6ish — B takes a nap, sooo tired from daycare!
  • 7ish — B is ready to eat! Bottle number 4 (6oz) for the day
  • 8ish — if it’s bath night (every other night on average) he gets a bath
  • 8:30ish — B takes a catnap before bed
  • 9:30ish — He wakes up and we give him bottle #5 (7 oz). We do a bit more staring at each other before bed.
  • 10:15ish – I wish him sweet dreams and swaddle him up, pop his pacifier in, we do a few minutes of butt pats and he goes down in his crib. Sometimes he’s drowsier than others; sometimes he babbles for a while before bed, but eventually he drifts off and sleeps until 7 when we start the whole process over again.

Easy peasy, right? I know we're so lucky to have such an easy kid. I'm just not sure where to sign up for baby #2 being this easy. Any suggestions? :)

Hope you all have a great weekend! I will be dreaming of my sweetie pie, whose probably doing a lot of this today...
